As a society, we use activism to help and try improve the world in a multitude of ways. Whether it is environmentally, socially, culturally, or economically, we strive to make changes big or small. In my Print Production class, we collaborated with Johnson & Wales University’s Art and Activism Committee to create a public exhibit on this topic. For my pieces, I chose the topic of feminism. My first poster illustrates a silhouette with some definitions and statements that contradict the stereotypes that feminism can portray. The second poster is a visual representation of the wage gap between men and women, showing 79 cents of the 100 pennies are colored in to represent that women make 79¢ for every $1 a man makes. My pieces were also shown in the Art & Activism Exhibit gallery of the JWU Graphic Design student activist work in the OneJWU Speaker Series: Art & Activism.
